The question of achieving sustainable competitive advantage in any firm centers on strategy which is the act of aligning a firm and its dynamic environment (Porter, 1991). Nevertheless, it is observed in the strategy theory, firms in the same industry with similar resources perform differently (wade & Hulland, 2004). This scenario is conspicuously observed among universities in Kenya and poses a threat to achievement of industrialization and vision 2030. It is with such a concern that this study sought to look at strategic factors that influence sustainable competitive advantage in Kenyan universities. The study results provide an advisory model that if used, will improve practice in management of universities and in particular will be a resource to policy makers, Ministry of Education, and Commission for University Education. It is hoped that embracing the strategic factors that positively influence sustainable competitive advantage will lead to improved services and quality higher education in the short run, and advance on universities’ competitiveness internationally in the long run.

This thesis is an empirical study of strategic management practices in the construction industry. It examines the dynamic capabilities paradigm within the context of the Indonesian construction industry. The characteristics of asset-capability combinations were found to be significant determinants of the competitive advantage of the Indonesian construction enterprises, and that such advantage sequentially contributes to organizational performance. In doing so, this study fills an important gap in the empirical literature and reinforces the dynamic capabilities framework’s recognition as a rigorous theory of strategic management. As the dynamic capabilities framework can work in the context of Indonesia, it suggests that the framework has potential applicability in other emerging and developing countries

The primary aim of this study was to investigate the role of military expenditure, which plays a vital role in the national defence of a country. Another purpose was to determine objectives and measures that describe the management strategy of the military resources via four Balanced Scorecard perspectives. Finally, implementation in the IT area concerning new methods and techniques (the new IT software platform) was examined in the study. The background for the book was an inductive study and review of existing management systems. The originality of the proposed innovation lies in its scientific approach, based upon a mathematical model built using the Utility Function principles. The results showed that this model can be used as a process for identifying the most appropriate variables required for effective monetary allocations with an emphasis on perspective development for planning defence spending. The principal conclusion is that this book synthesizes the divergent strands of the research which have the potential to transform the proposed model into a powerful strategy planning tool.
